On the forth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me – Four calling birds – the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John – all calling to us to learn of the Saviour. Their perspective is unique – just as their audiences were different – but the message was the same: This Jesus, Who came to dwell among us, is the promised One of God – He came to bring us forgiveness and restoration. We CAN live as God intends – but only with His help.
As you consider your New Year’s resolutions for 2019 – resolve to learn more about the One you want to spend eternity with.
Read about Him, talk to Him, listen to Him, ask for His guidance, spend time with other members of His family, and mostly, learn to love Him more each day – you will experience the ultimate LOVE STORY.
The Parish of Fundy and the Lakes
Dear Parishioner
As I sit here in the coffee shop waiting for my car to be looked at, I glance around and I see a number of Christmas decorations hanging inside and outside the store. This brings to mind how every year, people fall back on their personal traditions which surround this most important celebration. For many of us, these traditions date back for many generations and they are very important to us.
As we go through all the steps of following and re-creating these traditions, have we ever taken the time to ask ourselves – why do we follow these traditions? Is it simply because our great grandparents or ancestors did them and we just follow suit?
There is a story of a mother who would always cut both ends of the pot roast before she put it in the oven. One day her young daughter asked her why she did that. The mother replied it was because her own mother had always done so. So the young girl went and asked her grandmother why did that. She gave the same answer – because her mother always did. The young girl then went to her great grandmother and still received the same answer. Luckily for the young girl, her great great grandmother was still alive, so she was able to go visit her and asked the same question. The older lady smiled, looked at her young progeny and explained that the cooking pan she had for roast beef was too small, so she had to cut the ends in order for the meat to fit in. And so began a new tradition.
This year, my Advent challenge to all of you is that, as you prepare for the Christmas Season, you take the time to ask yourself – why do I do this? Why do I do it in this way? When and why did it start? Maybe even, why is this decoration, or is this pattern of decorating important to me? We may awaken something deep within ourselves that brings special meaning or reminds us of a special moment in our lives.
In a few weeks, we will be celebrating the birth of the Christ Child. Perhaps we could begin a new tradition of taking a few minutes each day in the season of Advent to focus our thoughts on the reason we decorate our homes. Let us take the time to offer a warm and festive welcome to the Christ Child who, each year, reminds us of His message of Hope, Peace, Love and Joy for our beloved world.
I invite all of you to join us throughout the Advent and Christmas Seasons as the parish family prepares and celebrates this most important time in the Christian calendar. The times and places of these services are enclosed.
May you all have a Blessed Advent and Christmas Seasons,
The Rev’d Canon Leo Martin
Rector

A Letter from Reverend Leo…
Thanksgiving 2018
The summer has certainly blessed us with wonderful and warm weather, and now, the chill is slowly creeping over our area to announce the arrival of autumn. This season not only brings changes in the weather, but it also brings changes into our schedules as we all try to bring back some sense of normalcy to our every day lives. The same applies to our parish and our church family.
While the summer period has been very busy with property demands, we now return to our cadence of regular meetings, classes and get-togethers to move the work of our parish forward. This fall, this will include our regular activities, our continuing pattern of worship, and in addition, the start of a Sunday School (October 14th) and major renovations at Christ the King to meet Safe Church standards. It will be busy and exciting.
In this season of thanksgivings, we will hopefully set aside a brief moment or two in our busy schedules to offer thanks to our God and Creator for all the blessings He showers upon us. These blessings will be different for all of us. In our personal lives, these may include family, friends, health, a new relationship, new employment, or even a new home amongst others. On a church family level, it could include new energy, a renewed interest in some activity, or perhaps a new idea for ministry. Our lists of thanksgivings are endless – sometimes, we simply overlook them.
As your Rector, I offer my thanks for the many facets of ministry which takes place in this parish. We have a large number of people involved in this ministry, at every level. It is heartwarming and I find it to be a true blessing. Our work together as a parish family is what allows us to face the challenges and joys which we encounter. Together, we till this part of God’s beautiful garden. Together, we get rewarded by its results. Together, we offer thanks for our cornucopia of blessings.
May God’s love and blessings continue to lead us in our lives, and may we work and walk together towards the call which comes our way facing it with open arms and thanksgiving.
In His Service,
The Reverend Canon Leo Martin
